Duty holder’s responsibilities.
  • The regulations require duty holders to ensure:
  • All work at height is properly planned and organised
  • All work at height takes account of weather conditions that could endanger health and safety
  • Those involved in work at height are properly trained and competent
  • The pace where work at height is done is safe
  • Equipment for work at height is appropriately inspected
  • The risk from fragile surfaces are properly controlled
  • The risks from falling objects are properly controlled

Planning

  • Ensure that the work is properly planned, appropriately supervised and carried out in as safe a manner as is reasonably practicable
  • Plan for emergencies and rescue
  • Take account of the Risk Assessment carried out under regulation 3 of the Management of Health and Safety Regulations. Five steps to Health & Safety

BS 8460:2005 Safe Use of MEWPs
(Mobile Elevating Work Platforms) Code of Practice.
This Code of Practice explains many points in the safe use of powered access machines and what is required when working at height. It goes a long way in allowing the customer to interpret the requirements o the legislation mentioned above. This can then be used in creating safe working practices as well as complying with the law.

 
Kimberly Access Guidance Notes.

In addition to all of the above we have created some simple guidance notes on the following which may be of use. These are linked to the above Code of Practice BS 8460:2005

Environment

  • Environmental aspects and impacts will be complied with as per current legislation
  • All waste products will wherever possible be re-cycled
  • Any waste products created on sites will be removed and re-cycled wherever possible 

Performance

Kimberly Access Ltd will review its health and safety performance on a regular basis. An independent Health and Safety advisor with strong links to the powered access industry is retained to carry out regular audits and to provide up to date information on health and safety legislation.

Monthly reports are submitted to the board as health and safety is considered to be as important as any other subject.
