Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1992

Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1992

Work at Height Regulation 2005

These regulations have only been introduced within the past two years. This is because of the relatively high incidences of falls from height. (Latest figures record: 45 people died as a result of a fall from height. 3351 people suffered serious injury as a result of a fall from height.

Briefly the regulations state:

What is Work at Height? A place “is at height” (unless these regulations are followed) a person could be injured falling from it, even if it is at below or ground level. What must you do as an employer? You must do all that is reasonably practicable to prevent anyone falling. The regulations set out a simple hierarchy for managing and selecting equipment for working at height.
